Where to position performers at your outlets

Are you currently exploring the activation of an outlet but are struggling to decide where to place/position the performer?

Remember: Emergency Exits!

One common issue when searching for space within an outlet is the need for an emergency exit. Vestibule spaces should generally be avoided unless the space is greater than 15 feet in width. Do not place a musician or performer in front of a fire exit. Ever!

Speaker Positioning

Avoid placing speakers (especially subwoofers) directly against interior walls. Bass frequencies (low thudding or sustained sounds) transmit quite well through walls and will disrupt adjacent guests on that floor as well as above or below the outlet.

Kitchen Sounds

Open kitchens are a great visual experience for guests, but often contribute a fair amount of noise to the dining experience. If you plan to activate music in your restaurant outlet, it is advised that the performer be placed away from an open kitchen (near the restaurant's bar is quite effective).

Employee and Guest Pathways

Observe the way that "traffic" flows around the anticipated performance space. Do guests or employees frequently walk through this area? If so, the use of a platform, stage, or set of stanchions is recommended so that guests understand the presence of the performance space.
