Create an inviting ambiance in your atrium

Luxury hotels are known for providing top-notch amenities and entertainment to their guests. A live music or DJ program is one such feature that adds to the overall luxurious experience. However, if you have a large atrium lobby that you’d like to activate, there are several important considerations that you need to make.

Accoustics

Acoustics as well as the placement of the musicians and their equipment should be a primary concern when activating your Atrium. Atriums are often many stories tall, which is not the ideal acoustical environment for many types of live music performances. Vocals can be especially challenging in these sorts of spaces, as the lyrics will become difficult for guests to understand if the accompanying instruments are too loud. This is one reason we often recommend instrumental performers, such as a jazz pianist or string trio. Performances with vocals can work if the environment doesn’t have too much background noise and the musicians are aware of their balance and volume while performing.

Volume

It is also important to ensure that the volume of the music is not too loud. While live music can be a great addition to the atrium, it should not disturb guests who may be relaxing or conversing nearby. This can be achieved by setting volume limits and using sound-absorbing materials to minimize noise levels.

Timing

In an atrium space, the timing and frequency of the live music program is especially important. This is because many hotel atriums have guest rooms around the perimeter of the space, and any music happening on the ground floor will be audible throughout the atrium. As such, it is recommended that music performances should be scheduled during times when they are least likely to disturb guests, avoiding late evening or early morning activations. For properties with an F&B outlet within their atrium, adding live music or DJs to a brunch or happy hour activation is an extremely effective method to attract hotel guests that might have gone elsewhere into this outlet.

Ultimately, thoughtfully designed live music programs can be an incredibly effective method to activate an Atrium while creating a wonderfully immersive experience for guests throughout the property.
